This recipe is everything you’ll need to make the best crunchy pita chips at home. With many seasonings options available, these pita chips make the best snack to munch on with your favorite hummus or salsas.
I always make some extra pieces of pita bread whenever I make some. Then use them later to turn them into chips and have them as snacks. Seasoned with toasted sesame seeds or dried oregano, they’re perfect chips to go with dips and hummus.
Healthier alternative
These pita chips are much better than any bagged chips that are available in stores. While these pita chips are not deep-fried and added salt is totally in your control, they’re also quite addictive.
How to make pita chips?
Follow this pita bread recipe to make pita bread.
Cut your pita bread into two rounds each. Run a knife along the seam or simply tear it gently with your hands. You can also use scissors to make an even cut.
Brush your cut pita bread with extra virgin olive oil on both sides. Make sure you simply brush lightly and not soak them. As we’re not frying it.
Season pita bread with any seasoning of your choice. Here are a few seasoning suggestions.
- Oregano
- Dried herbs
- Za’atar ( Mediterranean herb mix )
- Chilli flakes
- Paprika
- Parsley
- Dried cheese powder
Or any other seasoning mix of your choice. Your pita bread already does have salt in the recipe. However, you can add a pinch if you wish to do so.
Cut them into triangles or strips.
For Pan Roasted pita chips
Heat your pan on medium-high. Place pita chips on a pan covering the surface of the pan.Avoid overlapping as it won’t roast well.Turn heat to the lowest setting. Pan roast pita chips on each side up to 4-5 mins.Transfer the chops from the pan to a wire rack or basket.
It is very significant that you cool the chips before storing or serving. Cooling the chips will make them crispy and crunchy.
For baking pita chips
On a baking tray, line pita chips evenly. Do not use any kind of parchment paper or baking sheet.Bake the chips in an preheated oven at 170°c for 6-7mins. Make sure to turn them at least once. Transfer the chips onto a wire rack for cooling.
Serving
Enjoy these chips with variety of dips and spreads of your choice. Pita chips goes well with hummus or salsa. Or along with soup. These chips make an amazing presentation on a cheese boards at for wine tasting parties.

Tips
- Bake the chips until they’re light golden brown or have dark brown spots.
- Keep an eye on the chips, once they start to get brown spots they’ll start to burn rapidly.
