Time: 30mins + 30mins refrigeration
Servings: 30 cookies
1. Ingredients
- 220 grams butter unsalted ( softened room temperature)
- 200 grams Sugar (white granular)
- 200 grams Brown Sugar
- 340 grams all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs ( room temperature)
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract/ essence
- 1 teaspoon baking bicarb soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 330 grams chocolate chips ( chunks or chopped )
- 1 teaspoon salt
2. Instructions Preparing the Dough
Creaming the Butter and Sugars
To begin, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until light and fluffy. You can use an electric mixer or beat by hand using a wooden spoon.
Adding Eggs and Vanilla
Next, beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then, stir in the pure vanilla extract, infusing the dough with its aromatic flavor.
Combining Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
3. Shaping the Cookies
Adding Chocolate Chips
Now comes the exciting part—fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough. The luscious chocolate morsels will bring bursts of sweetness to every bite.
Portioning the Dough
Using a spoon or cookie scoop, portion the dough into small balls, approximately 1 to 2 tablespoons each. Place the dough balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 2 inches apart. This will allow room for the cookies to spread as they bake.
4. Baking Instructions
Baking the Cookies
Slide the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies turn golden brown. The center of the cookies should still be slightly soft. Keep in mind that the baking time may vary depending on your oven, so keep a close eye on them.
Cool and Settle
Once baked to perfection, remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. This will allow them to settle and firm up before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
5. Cooling and Enjoying
Letting the Cookies Cool
Allow the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies to cool completely on the wire rack. As they cool, their flavors will meld together, resulting in a delightful harmony of buttery goodness and sweet chocolate.
Serving
Finally, it’s time to savor your homemade chocolate chip cookies. Serve them alongside a glass of milk, a hot cup of coffee, or simply enjoy them on their own. The cookies can be stored in an airtight container for several days, but chances are they won’t last that long!
FAQs
Q1: Can I use salted butter instead of unsalted butter?
A: While you can use salted butter, it’s best to use unsalted butter in this recipe. This allows you to have better control over the saltiness of the cookies.
Q2: Can I use a different type of chocolate instead of chocolate chips?
A: Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with different types of chocolate, such as chopped chocolate bars or even white chocolate. Get creative and tailor the cookies to your taste.
Q3: How can I make my cookies chewier?
A: To make your cookies chewier, you can try adding an extra egg yolk to the dough. This will add moisture and create a softer texture.
Q4: Can I freeze the cookie dough?
A: Yes, you can freeze the cookie dough. Shape the dough into individual portions and place them on a baking sheet. Freeze until firm, then transfer the dough balls to a freezer bag. When you’re ready to bake, simply thaw the dough balls and follow the baking instructions as usual.
Q5: Can I add nuts or other mix-ins to the cookie dough?
A: Absolutely! If you enjoy the crunch and flavor of nuts, feel free to add them to the dough along with the chocolate chips. Chopped walnuts, pecans, or almonds make excellent additions.
Tips.
- It’s okay for your cookies to be soft when you remove them out of the oven. They’ll continue to cook further with the heat around them. So it’s very important not to overbake.
- The dough should not be wet or sticky or crumbly.
- You can use salted butter but keep tasting and adjust the salt as required.
- It is important to cream your sugars until dissolved. Undissolved sugar can create spots on your cookies and make them very hard.
Storage
- Store cookies in a container for up to 5 days.
- You can make a long log of the dough and freeze it for up to a month. When required, cut the log 2 inches thick, and rest it to come to room temperature, and bake.
