You can also try replacing chocolate chips with nuts or any other add ons. Or just make them plain. Walnut or pecan nuts have a good nutty flavor that goes well along with a banana.
How to make Chocolate Chips Banana Muffins ?
To make chocolate chips banana muffins , preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Place paper liners in a muffin tin.
In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, and salt.
In a different bowl, whip together butter, sugar, and eggs until they become light and fluffy. Then, mix in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients and mix until they are just combined. Add the chocolate chips and stir.
Fill the prepared muffin tins to about 2/3 of their capacity.
Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick you insert into the center emerges clean.
Allow the muffins to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Let them cool completely there.

This recipe doesn’t necessarily require a stand mixer. You would just need 2 bowls, a whisk, fork, spatula, and muffin tray.
Different variations of banana muffins
- Peanut butter Banana Muffins: mix one teaspoon of peanut butter into your muffin batter before baking.
- Nutella Banana muffin: mix one teaspoon of Nutella into muffin batter before baking.
- Blueberry Banana Muffins: add 75g frozen blueberries to muffin batter, mix well.
- Banana Nut Muffins: add 75-80g chopped walnuts or any nuts of your choice to the muffin batter.

Ingredients
- 180 g All- Purpose Flour
- 140 g Brown Sugar
- 3 Bananas Overriped
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 120 ml Butter unsalted, melted
- 2 large Eggs
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 170 g Chocolate Chips Semi Sweet
- 1 tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Cinnamon powder or Ground Nutmeg Optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°c. Line muffin tray with muffin cups and set aside.
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Whisk together until there are no visible clumps and set aside.
- In a large separate bowl mash bananas with a fork. Mash until small pieces of bananas are left. Add eggs and vanilla extract and whisk until combined.
- Add melted butter and combine well. Then add all dry ingredients to the wet mix and combine them with a spatula. Fold the batter until just combined.
- At this stage add chocolate chips and mix well. Leave a handful for topping later.
- With an ice cream scoop or a spoon, pour the batter into the muffin cups till the top. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the muffin batter.
- Bake at 200°c for 5 minutes, after 5 minutes reduce the temperature to 180°c and bake further for 20-25 minutes. Until the clean toothpick comes out clean.
- After baking transfer the Chocolate Chips Banana Muffins onto a wire rack and let them cool completely.
Tips
- To get a tall hard top muffin hat it is important to bake at a higher temperature for 5 mins, then reduce the temperature while baking.
- After adding dry ingredients just fold the batter. Avoid over mixing, as it will make your muffins dense and dry.
- Use ripe bananas to make chocolate chip banana muffins for more flavor.
- Make sure to use room temperature eggs and melted butter for this chocolate chip banana muffin recipe.
- I recommend using vanilla extract instead of vanilla essence to get the best flavor.
- You can use any chocolate chips of your choice. I prefer to use semi-sweet compound chocolate chips small size.
Storage
Store the muffins in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-6 days. Freeze the muffins for up to 3 months for a longer period. Thaw the muffins at room temperature and microwave to refresh them.
These muffins are so moist and delicious, they make a perfect breakfast treat. The hard top muffin hat and the melted chocolate chips makes these my favorite. The kids love it too.
